Match Preview: France vs. England
Both France and England are looking to conclude their tournament on a positive note after experiencing semi-final defeats. France suffered a 2-0 loss to Spain, with Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro scoring. The French squad, featuring players like Kylian Mbappe, Ousmane Dembele, and Michael Olise, aims for a bronze medal, especially with reports suggesting this could be Didier Deschamps‘ final tournament as manager. France has a history of high-scoring third-place matches, including a 6-3 victory over West Germany in 1958.
England‘s semi-final exit was a different scenario, as Thomas Tuchel‘s side led Argentina 1-0 with a goal from Anthony Gordon in the 55th minute. However, Argentina scored twice in the last six minutes, with Enzo Fernández equalising in the 85th minute and Lautaro Martínez scoring the winner in stoppage time. Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham have been key to England‘s scoring throughout the tournament. England has previously lost both of its other third-place appearances, to Italy in 1990 and Belgium in 2018.
The match is anticipated to be a competitive encounter between two teams with elite individual talent and a history of high-scoring finishes in this fixture. The outcome may depend on which team can better overcome the psychological impact of their semi-final losses.
