Islamabad: German Embassy Announces Online Visa Applications for Afghan Citizens

The German Embassy in Islamabad announced that Afghan citizens can apply for German work and study visas online starting June 2026. This shift aims to streamline the visa application process for those seeking opportunities in Germany.

Previously, applicants had to enter a waiting list before receiving an appointment. The embassy stated, “The new system will lead to significantly faster processing of applications.” This move is expected to benefit many Afghan citizens amid ongoing challenges.

The TTP has become a growing threat along Pakistan’s western border since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan. In 2025 alone, Pakistan experienced over 1,000 deadly attacks by TTP militants, resulting in significant casualties.

Casualties from TTP attacks include:

  • 667 security personnel deaths
  • 580 civilian deaths
  • 30 people killed in a blast in Tarlai Imambargah
  • 11 people killed in a suicide attack on a border security check-post

In response to these threats, Pakistan conducted aerial strikes against TTP sanctuaries in Afghanistan. Reports indicate that 143 individuals died from these strikes in Kabul.
