The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is relocating its Karachi operations to the Karachi Cotton Exchange building. This move coincides with a significant modernization initiative.
On Tuesday morning, FIA Director Muhammad Ali Zia led an awareness session at NIT Lahore focusing on white-collar crimes. He emphasized the importance of informed citizens in combating these issues.
Later that day, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the FIA headquarters. His goal was to review ongoing modernization efforts within the agency.
As of midday, the relocation process for the FIA’s Karachi operations is already underway. The Karachi Cotton Exchange building will serve as the new city headquarters.
This building, located on I.I. Chundrigar Road, has an estimated 200 to 300 rooms. Officials from the FIA have reached an arrangement with the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) to use this building on a rental basis.
However, uncertainties surround the ownership of the Karachi Cotton Exchange property. It is currently under adjudication before the Sindh High Court.
Mohsin Naqvi stated that upgrading the FIA to meet international standards must be achieved by the end of the current year. This modernization aims to make the FIA more proactive and citizen-friendly.
The FIA’s initiative reflects a broader effort among law enforcement agencies to address rising challenges in white-collar and cyber crimes. The relocation and upgrades are critical steps in adapting to these evolving threats.
