Esteban Andrada, the goalkeeper for Real Zaragoza, has received a 13-match suspension from the Spanish Football Federation following violent conduct during a derby match against Huesca.
The incident occurred early Tuesday during a heated match. Andrada punched Jorge Pulido after receiving a second yellow card for shoving him. This led to a full-blown brawl involving players and staff from both teams.
As of midday, officials confirmed that Andrada’s punishment includes a 12-match ban for the punch and an additional match for the red card. Dani Tasende received a two-game suspension for kicking an opponent during the melee, while Dani Jiménez was suspended for four matches after punching Andrada.
Zaragoza lost the match 1-0 against Huesca. The shocking act has raised serious concerns about player discipline in high-pressure matches within La Liga 2.
Andrada, who is on loan from Monterrey until the end of the season, apologized for his actions after the match. He acknowledged that his conduct reflected poorly on both himself and his club.
The RFEF’s Disciplinary Committee stated, “The offence warranted the maximum 12-match sanction, along with the automatic one-game suspension.” All suspensions can be appealed, though no timeline has been shared regarding potential appeals.
This incident highlights ongoing issues related to player behavior in Spanish football, especially during intense derby matches.
