Petrol diesel price

Consumers in Pakistan are now paying Rs. 399.86 per litre for petrol and Rs. 399.58 for diesel. This surge highlights a significant increase in fuel prices due to various hidden charges.

On May 3, 2026, the Prime Minister approved an increase of Rs. 19.39 per litre for diesel and Rs. 6.51 for petrol. This decision adds to the existing heavy tax burden on consumers.

As of midday, consumers face a staggering Rs. 153.55 per litre in combined taxes, levies, and distribution margins on petrol alone. The largest component of this pricing is the petroleum levy, which stands at approximately Rs. 103.50 per litre.

In comparison, taxes account for about 32% of the final petrol price in Pakistan. This high taxation rate contributes significantly to government revenue.

The situation in India is different yet noteworthy. On the same day, petrol prices reached ₹94.77 in Delhi and ₹103.54 in Mumbai, while diesel prices were ₹87.67 in Delhi and ₹90.03 in Mumbai.

In Bhubaneswar, petrol prices fell by ₹0.09 to ₹100.94 per litre, while in Cuttack they decreased by ₹0.78 to ₹101.19 per litre.

The rising fuel prices in Pakistan raise concerns about affordability for consumers already burdened by high living costs.

This development underscores the urgent need for policy reforms regarding fuel taxation and pricing structures in Pakistan.

The next review of fuel prices is anticipated soon as public outcry grows over these increasing costs.

This situation highlights the broader implications of taxation on daily life and consumer spending power in Pakistan.
