Karachi is bracing for a severe heatwave. The Pakistan Meteorology Department issued an alert early Tuesday, warning of extreme temperatures. Feels-like temperatures may reach up to 50°C.
Previously, forecasts indicated maximum temperatures in Karachi would peak at 41°C on Monday and 40°C on Sunday. However, the latest data suggests that conditions are worsening.
As of midday, very hot and dry weather is expected across most districts in Sindh province. Dust storms and strong winds are also forecasted over the weekend.
Officials noted that recent days have recorded temperatures 2°C to 4°C above normal levels, indicating an early onset of intense summer conditions.
Key temperature forecasts:
- 41°C maximum in Karachi on Monday.
- 40°C maximum in Karachi on Sunday.
- Feels-like temperature reaching up to 50°C.
- Daytime highs likely to rise 4 to 6°C above normal in several districts.
The public has been advised to take precautionary measures against the severe heat. The Met Office specifically urged children, women, and senior citizens to stay hydrated and avoid direct sunlight during peak hours.
Humidity levels are also concerning:
Expected to peak at around 45% on Saturday. and Projected to rise to about 70% on Sunday.
The Heat Wave Early Warning Centre has indicated that these conditions may persist in central and upper parts of Sindh until May 3, 2026. Farmers are advised to manage their crop activities accordingly.
This intense heat poses risks not just for individuals but also for infrastructure. Dust-laden winds could damage weak structures and solar panels, according to the Met Office.
