Islamabad weather

Heavy rain in Islamabad on May 3, 2026, ended weeks of intense heat. The downpour brought temperatures down to 18 degrees Celsius, providing much-needed relief.

The rainfall improved inflows into the Khanpur Dam, Rawal Dam, and Simly Dam. However, it also caused damage to wheat crops lying in fields. Several underpasses experienced flooding with up to one foot of standing water.

As of midday, cool winds followed the rain, drawing residents outdoors. Winds reached speeds of 18 kilometers per hour. The rainfall also washed dust off roads and trees, improving visibility significantly.

Thunderstorms and hailstorms are predicted across various parts of the country within the next 24 hours. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued alerts for these conditions.

The weather is expected to turn hot and dry again in most regions after this rain. Karachi is predicted to see maximum temperatures hit 41 degrees Celsius soon.

Umar Farooq stated, “If monsoon rains remain normal, there is no immediate threat of a summer water shortage.” Rain is also likely in districts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.
