Google is redesigning the gemini app with a new interface

Google is redesigning the Gemini app with a new interface that significantly departs from its previous static design. The update currently rolls out to a limited number of iOS users.

The redesign includes a Liquid Glass-style aesthetic on iOS 26. Users will notice animated backgrounds that react to their input, creating a more engaging experience.

A new ‘plus’ button will open a broader set of tools, including images, camera input, and music. The homepage greeting has been revamped to read: ‘Hi [name], what’s on your mind?’.

Additionally, the model picker is now a dropdown menu located at the top-left corner. The account switcher has been moved to the bottom of the side navigation menu.

The app will also include a unified tools section for AI capabilities, such as image generation and guided learning. This aims to make the app look more visually pleasing and modern.

Some observers note that this new design resembles ChatGPT’s interface, which may ease user transition. However, Android users have not yet received this redesign.

Officials have not confirmed when the redesign will roll out widely or when Android users will get it. The timing suggests an announcement could coincide with Google I/O on May 19 and 20.
