England and Norway are set to meet in a World Cup quarter-final match at the Hard Rock Stadium. The game is scheduled to kick off at 2 AM PKT on July 12. Both teams have announced their starting lineups for the upcoming fixture.
Norway enters this quarter-final with momentum, having defeated Brazil 2-1 in the round of 16. Their performance throughout the tournament has been described as solid, and they aim to continue this run. Meanwhile, England secured their spot in the last eight after a victory against Mexico. The Three Lions have shown good form and are looking to advance further in the competition.
Team Preparations and Injury Updates
Ahead of the quarter-final, England received positive news regarding several key players. Declan Rice, Marc Guéhi, and Reece James all returned to training on Friday. Rice had been dealing with an illness following the last-16 win over Mexico, and Guéhi had been managing a hamstring issue. Both players participated in training in Miami on Friday, indicating their availability for selection.
Reece James also joined the training session, marking his first appearance since sustaining a hamstring injury during England‘s second group stage match against Ghana. Head coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed that all three players were available for selection for the match. Tuchel stated that having everyone available in training was the best news, providing a full choice of players, with the exception of a suspended player.
The only player from the 26-man squad who missed the training session was Jordan Henderson, who sustained a wrist and arm injury during celebrations after the win against Mexico. Additionally, Jarell Quansah will be unavailable for the match against Norway due to a two-game ban received for a red card in the previous match.
Former player Jamie Carragher has offered his perspective on the upcoming game, suggesting a narrow 2-1 win for England. However, he cautioned Thomas Tuchel‘s side against underestimating their opponents. Carragher noted that Norway could be a tougher challenge than some might anticipate, highlighting their strong performance against Brazil where they dominated possession in the second half and deserved to win.
Carragher also mentioned Norway‘s striker Erling Haaland, whom he believes will be a significant player. Despite acknowledging Haaland‘s talent, Carragher emphasized that Norway possesses more than just the goals of the Manchester City star, indicating a well-rounded team.
