Eid al-adha: Halima’s Family Celebrates with Qurbani Meat in Sudan

Halima lives with her four children in a camp for displaced people in Gedaref, Sudan. This Eid al-Adha, they received qurbani meat from Islamic Relief. For Halima, this moment brings unexpected joy amid their struggles.

Last year, more than 92,500 people in Sudan received qurbani meat packs from Islamic Relief. The organization reached over 3.2 million people across 29 countries with its qurbani distribution.

Halima expressed her gratitude: “Eid al-Adha means everything to me. This has become a great happiness for my children.” Her family’s situation highlights the ongoing challenges faced by displaced individuals due to the prolonged crisis in Sudan.

In Türkiye, the government announced it will extend the Eid al-Adha holiday to nine days, from May 25 to May 31, 2026. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan emphasized that this extension provides more time for citizens to celebrate.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is also preparing for Eid celebrations. They have established cattle markets at five locations for the upcoming holiday. Initially, they sought permission for eleven sites but settled on five: Athar Bazaar, North Karachi, KMC Ground, Safari Park, and Blocks 5 and 6 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

This decision is seen as a positive development that will ease Eid-ul-Azha shopping for citizens. As families gather to celebrate Eid al-Adha between May 27 and May 30 this year, many look forward to sharing meals featuring qurbani meat.

The impact of these distributions is significant for families like Halima’s. Access to qurbani meat not only fulfills a cultural and religious obligation but also brings hope and sustenance during difficult times.

As Eid approaches, communities across regions prepare for celebrations that honor tradition while addressing current hardships faced by many displaced families.
