Cole Allen has requested to end suicide precautions following his alleged assassination attempt on President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25, 2026. As of midday, his lawyers claim these precautions violate his rights.
Allen allegedly fired a shotgun outside the event, which raised serious concerns about White House security. He was booked into jail on April 27 and placed in a ‘safe cell’ with 24-hour lockdown procedures. His lawyers filed a motion for a private meeting, which federal authorities denied.
Key charges against Allen:
- Attempted assassination of President Trump
- Discharging a firearm during a crime of violence
- Illegally transporting guns and ammunition across state lines
A nurse recommended ending the suicide precautions, but they remained in place during a visit from his lawyer. Critics are questioning how he accessed the event armed, especially after security footage showed a police dog lingering near him before the shooting.
Tom Fitton commented, “The dog obviously knew something was going on and for whatever reason his handler pulled him away.” Chris Swecker added that Allen seemed confident in accessing the venue, suggesting lapses in security protocols.
Allen has not yet entered a plea regarding the charges against him. His lawyers argue that the conditions he faces amount to punishment and deny him access to resources like jail tablets.
The next court proceedings will address these issues as Allen’s case continues to unfold amid ongoing public scrutiny.
